OpenAI will make its frontier AI models and the Codex coding agent available through Google Cloud in the coming weeks, the companies announced on Wednesday, October 21, deepening ties between two rivals. Reuters reported this.

The partnership will bring OpenAI's latest models such as GPT-6 Astra to Google Cloud's Model Garden, allowing customers to buy them through Google Cloud Marketplace and apply existing cloud spending commitments. Ars Technica reports that OpenAI's latest AI models are coming to Google Cloud and will also be available inside Google's Antigravity development environment and the Gemini Agent.

Customers in regulated industries will be able to access OpenAI models through Google Cloud's access controls, data governance tools and infrastructure to build agentic AI workflows. This is the key point of the deal: not just selling models, but embedding them into corporate security and compliance perimeters.

Google became the latest major hyperscaler to offer OpenAI models after OpenAI's exclusive distribution arrangement with Microsoft expired in April; OpenAI has since expanded distribution to Amazon Web Services. With Google joining the top three cloud platforms, OpenAI's models are becoming a de facto standard part of the enterprise cloud stack.

According to Ars Technica, the models will also be available inside the Antigravity development environment and the Gemini Agent — meaning Google is integrating a competitor's models into its own developer products. This underscores the scale of the shift: competition and cooperation in AI increasingly go hand in hand.
